GREASE produced scores of digital and printed publications. Alongside scholarly work, we created practical outputs to engage policymakers, civil society and the media. We gathered and analyzed comparative data on over two dozen countries around the world.

Delving deep into vital questions concerning state-religion relations, we gained robust insights into religious diversity governance and religiously inspired radicalisation. We also looked at how different forms of secularism and migration factor into this discussion.

We generated three seminal concept papers, over two dozen country reports, 12 reports on radicalisation and resilience,  journal articles, at least two special issues, scores of blog pieces,  two academic books, a practical handbook, three comparative reports, four policy briefs and a comprehensive final report.

Here’s an overview of our publications (and related activities) during the project’s official time-frame:

2022

Originally scheduled to conclude in March, GREASE was extended (due to the pandemic) through September. In this final phase we presented four Policy Briefs linked to different geographical regions, spotlighting countries in Western Europe, Southeastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and MENA. The policy brief from our Moroccan consortium partners was delivered in combination with a GREASE policy round-table and academic conference face-to-face in Fes. (This is the only on-site international workshops we managed to salvage from several planned before the pandemic.)

We are delighted to note the addition of Bangladesh and Pakistan to our collection of country reports in 2022.

In September we held our final conference in Brussels, accompanying the preparation of a substantial Final Report with key findings delivered to the European Commission and available for public review.

2021
Routledge published our Handbook on the Governance of Religious Diversity. Our collection of Country Reports was expanded to include Canada. And we produced a pair of Comparative Reports on state-religion relations and religious radicalisation in different world regions.

2020
During our second year we issued 12 Case Studies on religious radicalisation and resilience. In connection with that we published a practical Handbook on strengthening resilience against violent religious radicalisation. We also produced a Toolkit of socio-political indicators for evaluating how religious diversity is governed in different parts of the world. Using those metrics, we published 24 Country Assessments. Meanwhile, the number of articles in our Global Extremesblog (a joint effort with the the BRaVE project and Open Democracy) grew to over 20.

2019
In March we published our first Blog Articles. May saw the release of three Concept Papers outlining the project’s conceptual framework. By year’s end we had e-published 23 Country Profiles and a corresponding set of detailed Country Reports. These reports assess governance of religious diversity in light of historical, economic, cultural and political factors.
